Indonesia Weather Forecast for 25 May 2026: Thunderstorm Warning in Major Cities
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a weather forecast for 25 May 2026, warning of potential extreme conditions across several major cities. Residents are advised to be cautious of thunderstorms, particularly in western regions. BMKG forecaster M Rizky explained that atmospheric conditions are currently triggering significant rain cloud formation in several areas. “Western Indonesia faces potential thunderstorms in Tanjungpinang, Palembang, and Pontianak,” Rizky stated during the official weather forecast briefing in Jakarta.
In addition to thunderstorms, BMKG predicts moderate rainfall in Serang and Jakarta, while light rain is expected to dominate much of western and central Indonesia. Cities including Banda Aceh, Medan, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda are likely to experience light showers.
For eastern Indonesia, BMKG forecasts light rain across Denpasar, Mataram, most of Sulawesi, Ternate, Ambon, and much of Papua, with Kupang expected to have heavy cloud cover. In Sumatra, BMKG noted potential haze in Padang and reduced visibility in Jambi.
Rizky cautioned that the forecast is a general overview of daily weather and urged the public to stay alert to dynamic changes. “For more detailed and hourly-updated weather information, the public can monitor the BMKG Info app and official social media account @infobmkg,” he added.
