Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi urged logistics companies to comply with a joint decree on freight vehicle restrictions to ensure a smooth and safe return flow during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr period.

“The peak of the return flow is predicted to occur in several waves on March 24, 25, and 27, 2026,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.

The decree, issued by the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police, and the Ministry of Public Works, regulates traffic and crossings during the holiday period.

Under the policy, freight vehicles with three or more axles are restricted from operating from March 13 to 29.

Dudy urged logistics operators to comply with the restrictions, stressing their importance in maintaining traffic flow and road safety.

“This step is important to ensure smooth traffic and the safety of all road users,” he said.

He added that compliance reflects a collective effort to ensure mobility during the return flow remains safe, orderly, and smooth.

The minister also expressed appreciation to logistics companies and the police for supporting and enforcing the policy.

He urged travelers to plan their return trips carefully and avoid peak travel periods.

Spreading travel times is expected to reduce congestion and improve safety and comfort.

He also called on the public to follow traffic rules and instructions from officers, while the government continues to monitor and evaluate return flow movements.

The Ministry of Transportation previously projected that 143.9 million people will travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
