Indonesia urges investors to use embassies for business issues
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno on Tuesday urged global business leaders to first contact Indonesia’s embassies if they encounter obstacles when investing in the country.
Oegroseno made the remarks at the International Seminar on Debottlenecking Channels at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta, which was attended by foreign ambassadors and global business representatives.
“If there are issues that need to be resolved, those nodes that the Finance Minister mentioned, please report them to our embassies. We will then liaise with their embassies here,” he said when asked about the minister’s role in addressing investment bottlenecks.
Oegroseno said the Foreign Affairs Ministry, through its overseas missions, serves to bridge the interests of foreign investors with the Indonesian government. Ideally, he added, foreign investors should first approach Indonesian embassies.
“They can contact our embassies first, consult with them, and then look for partners and clear regulations in Indonesia,” he said.
He added that the government, through the Finance Ministry, has established a Debottlenecking Task Force to resolve investment issues that hinder economic activity.
The task force is designed as an official channel for businesses to report real-world constraints, which will be addressed through periodic debottlenecking sessions.
“This makes it easier to input data, when and where the problem occurs. So the Foreign Affairs Ministry can also monitor developments and help foreign investors push for faster resolution,” he explained.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said coordination with the Foreign Ministry was essential to address investment barriers, including promoting the task force’s website.
“Cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry is very important to disseminate this to ambassadors around the world, so that investors who want to come here know where to go if they face obstacles. This will have a significant impact,” Purbaya said.
