Indonesia Urges Investigation into Attack Killing UNIFIL Soldiers
The Indonesian government has strongly condemned the consecutive attacks that claimed the lives of two Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel in Lebanon, where they were serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasised that the government is demanding a comprehensive investigation.
Indonesia views the incident not as an isolated event but as part of the worsening security situation in the region. In recent times, the intensity of military operations in the area has been said to have heightened risks to peacekeeping forces.
“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemns the second attack that occurred consecutively near Bani Haiyyan, southern Lebanon, on 30 March 2026, which targeted Indonesian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), resulting in the deaths of two personnel and injuries to two others,” stated the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs release.
“The repetition of these heinous attacks on Indonesian peacekeepers within a short period is an action that is completely unacceptable.”
Furthermore, the government has spotlighted the increasingly tense conditions in southern Lebanon amid ongoing military operations that directly impact the safety of UN personnel. UN peacekeeping forces are currently considered to be at very serious risk.
Indonesia has once again expressed condemnation of Israeli military actions, which it deems to be worsening the situation and hindering the implementation of the UN mandate on the ground. Indonesia stresses the importance of protecting peacekeeping forces and urges a thorough investigation.
“The safety and security of UN peacekeepers cannot be compromised. Any actions that endanger them constitute a serious violation of international law and must not be left unaccounted for,” the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement continued.
“Indonesia calls for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts, including the chronology of events and the responsible parties, and asserts that full accountability must be enforced.”
