Indonesia Urges Accelerated Implementation of Two-State Solution
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is urging the accelerated implementation of a two-state solution amidst the ongoing violence and displacement in Palestine, stated Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono.
“The Palestinian people are still facing violence and displacement. We must end this reality,” said the Foreign Minister during the meeting of the Global Ministerial Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Wednesday (23/9).
Sugiono explained that one year after the adoption of the New York Declaration and Security Council Resolution 2803, international support for a two-state solution continues to grow. An increasing number of countries have also recognised the State of Palestine.
“We now have the opportunity and the responsibility to transform this growing political momentum into real and collective action,” he said.
Indonesia called upon countries that have not yet recognised Palestine to provide immediate recognition as part of the effort to strengthen the path towards the realisation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
“We must continue to knock on the doors of every country that does not yet recognise Palestine, because every recognition will dismantle one by one the bricks of the occupation wall,” he stated.
At the same time, Indonesia firmly rejected any actions deemed to threaten the statehood of Palestine, including the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements.
“The E1 settlement plan is a clear example. Indonesia rejects it. The UN rejects it. The international community must also reject it,” he said.
Indonesia also emphasised the importance of maintaining the legal and historical status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem.
Indonesia stated it will continue to provide humanitarian assistance, strengthen Palestinian capacity, and fully support the realisation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
As a form of continued commitment, the Foreign Minister added that Indonesia, together with the Netherlands, will co-host the next meeting of the Global Alliance in The Hague in November.
Indonesia believes that political support must be translated into coordinated steps to protect Palestinian statehood, uphold international law, and end the occupation.
Indonesia also emphasised the importance of involving the Palestinian people in every decision regarding their future, with the shared goal of achieving an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
“Our unity is our strength. Let us utilise it to achieve our common goal: the realisation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state,” he said.
Indonesia’s presence at the UN General Assembly in 2024 is represented by Foreign Minister Sugiono as the head of the Indonesian delegation. Sugiono has been in New York since Monday (21/9) local time and is participating in various high-level meetings.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s national statement during the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on Saturday night (26/9) local time.
