Indonesia Urged to Withdraw from Board of Peace Following TNI Deaths in Lebanon
Deputy General Chairman of Golkar Party Ahmad Doli Kurnia is urging the government to consider withdrawing from the Board of Peace following Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. The attacks on 29 and 30 March resulted in the deaths of three Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel.
“There is no longer any benefit in sitting at the same table discussing peace, while at the same time those countries are escalating day by day and ceaselessly committing genocide,” he stated in his comments on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
He described Israel’s attack on the peacekeeping forces participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission as inhumane. Moreover, he stated that Israel has repeatedly carried out attacks that violate agreements and international law.
This deputy chairman of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Body said the country must be angry and condemn Israel’s attack on the peacekeeping forces. Indonesia, he said, is a nation that has consistently maintained world peace.
“Indonesia must be angry, because this has indeed resulted in the loss of lives of Indonesian citizens,” he said.
He also warned the executive to take a firm stance in responding to the incident involving the deaths of the three TNI personnel. According to him, the government must intensively coordinate with the United Nations to strive to end the war in the Middle East.
“That war has impacted all nations, including Indonesia, both economically and physically through the loss of lives,” said Doli.
Previously, Israel’s attack on the peacekeeping forces’ area in Lebanon occurred on 29 March 2026. The explosion killed Private Farizal Rhomadhon. Three other TNI personnel were injured: Private Rico Pramudia, Private Bayu Prakoso, and Private Arif Kurniawan.
The following day, an explosion in southern Lebanon killed two TNI personnel. The victims were Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan. Two other Indonesian military personnel were injured: Lieutenant Inf Sulthan Wirdean Maulana and Private Deni Rianto.
