The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has responded to the latest developments regarding the potential opening of negotiation space between the United States and Iran through third-party involvement.

Deputy Chairman of the PKS Faction in DPR RI, Sukamta, emphasised that Indonesia must take an appropriate and measured position in responding to these dynamics, in line with the principles of free and active foreign policy.

“Indonesia must be present as an honest broker, a party trusted by all sides, while maintaining independence and not getting entangled in specific geopolitical interests,” Sukamta stated.

The PKS Faction views this momentum as an opportunity to push for conflict de-escalation through constructive diplomatic channels. As the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, Indonesia also maintains good relations with various global powers and holds a strategic position to encourage peace negotiations.

Furthermore, the PKS Faction urges that the mediation process be conducted through a multilateral approach involving international institutions such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to ensure a more inclusive, credible, and just process.

“The most important thing is not just who becomes the mediator, but how to stop the potential escalation of conflict, protect civilians, and open the way to sustainable peace,” he continued.

The PKS Faction also emphasised that a humanitarian approach must be the priority in every conflict resolution effort, given the broad impact on regional stability and civilian safety.

As part of the global community, Indonesia is expected to continue playing an active role in promoting world peace through cool-headed, constructive, and solution-oriented diplomacy.
