Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism has launched the ‘Indonesia Tourism and Tourism Outlook 2026/2027’, which can serve as a strategic reference for stakeholders to interpret dynamics, capture opportunities, anticipate challenges, and determine the direction of tourism development towards 2027.

“Facing next year, we must move towards stronger growth. To that end, the Indonesia Tourism Outlook serves as a shared compass for reading changes, recognising opportunities, and anticipating risks,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.

Widiyanti stated that the ‘Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027’ was prepared by considering the perspectives of tourism experts through expert surveys, as well as interviews with business actors and partners involved in various flagship programmes of the Ministry of Tourism.

This approach is expected to align policy perspectives with industry developments and needs. The Outlook does not merely depict the current state of tourism but also provides an overview of the opportunities, challenges, and priorities that require attention in the future development of Indonesian tourism.

Widiyanti also noted that Indonesian tourism continues to show a positive performance trend, meaning every achievement must be maintained. For instance, from January to July 2026, international tourist arrivals reached 8.98 million visits, representing a growth of 5.23 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

She emphasised that collaboration is becoming increasingly important, as the success of tourism development is not determined by the government alone but also requires the involvement of industry, academia, communities, the public, and various other stakeholders.

Strong competitiveness must be accompanied by efforts to improve the quality of tourism growth. Future tourism growth is expected to be reflected not only by an increase in the number of visits but also by increasingly high-quality travel experiences, greater economic added value, and more tangible benefits for community welfare.

The launch of the ‘Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2026/2027’ coincides with World Tourism Day, celebrated every 27 September. This timing serves as an opportunity to reflect on the journey of the tourism sector while preparing future steps amidst a constantly changing global landscape.

“With the spirit of World Tourism Day, I hope this document strengthens our policy footing, serves as a reference for industry players, and strengthens our collective collaboration,” said Minister Widiyanti.
