Indonesia Tops UN Digital Education Ranking, Prabowo Says
President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that Indonesia’s digital education innovation received an award from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations agency, placing the country first out of 122 nations in the e-government and digital education category. He stated that this is proof that Indonesia’s digitalisation of education is increasingly recognised globally.
‘We have just received good news from the UN. The International Telecommunication Union gave the highest award to us, Indonesia, out of 122 countries in the e-government and digital education categories,’ Prabowo said during a briefing at a plenary cabinet session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
The recognition refers to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes held on 9 July 2026. Indonesia, represented by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, won first place in the e-government category through the ‘Rumah Pendidikan’ (Education House) programme.
Rumah Pendidikan is an application that provides various educational services on a single platform. Through the application, students can access learning materials, while teaching staff can exchange ideas and share thoughts with fellow educators.
Prabowo said the application greatly assists students in accessing 4,843 free learning materials and supports teaching staff in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions. He noted that the application currently has 6.9 million users.
‘This award from the UN proves that our education digitalisation is recognised by the world. We are leaping forward, we are leaping forward,’ he explained.
Nevertheless, Prabowo reminded his entire administration not to become complacent. According to him, the journey to improve the quality and equity of national education is still long. Therefore, the government will remain committed to accelerating education digitalisation so that communities in underdeveloped and outermost regions can access the best quality education.
On that occasion, Prabowo said the government will distribute 700,000 interactive digital panels by the end of 2026 or the first half of 2027. This addition will allow every school to have three extra interactive screens. ‘What does this mean? It means that our children and our teachers throughout Indonesia have access to the best learning materials,’ he stated.
