Indonesia to reopen Mount Semeru climbing routes on 24 April

TNBTS head Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha said the reopening was stated in an official announcement issued on April 22.

Climbing will only be allowed up to the Ranu Kumbolo area, and climbers are prohibited from continuing to the summit.

Visitors must purchase tickets online through the official TNBTS website at least two days before their trip.

The daily quota is set at 200 climbers, with each trip limited to two days and one night.

Those who made bookings between November 19 and December 18, 2025, can reschedule their trips online.

TNBTS also urged climbers to comply with updated standard operating procedures, including entering through the official Ranu Pani gate and carrying required documents.

TNBTS public relations officer Endrip Wahyutama said climbers are now required to be accompanied by local guides to prevent them from heading toward the summit.

Mount Semeru, the highest peak on Java Island, was closed on November 19, 2025, following an eruption that posed risks to climbers.
