Indonesia to Renovate 2 Million Uninhabitable Homes Next Year
The government’s 3 million homes programme remains a key focus for 2027, with various measures being prepared to achieve the target. Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait stated during a working meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission V that the ministry is tasked with implementing the programme through the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) scheme and the construction of apartment blocks. The BSPS programme, also known as home renovation, is aimed at low-income communities, while apartment construction will be expanded to meet housing needs in urban areas. The majority of the proposed budget is directed towards physical programmes, with Rp102.91 trillion of the total Rp106 trillion allocation, or 97.09%, earmarked for these activities. The government has made BSPS its top priority, with the programme absorbing the largest portion of the ministry’s budget at Rp57.29 trillion for 2.07 million housing units. In addition to renovations, the government has proposed a large-scale apartment construction programme to address rising urban housing demand, allocating Rp36.94 trillion for 50,000 units across 422 towers. The minister noted that he has received numerous requests from various groups for apartment blocks, prompting the increased development proposal.
