Indonesia to Import US Oil Worth Rp253 Trillion Annually
Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Head of BKPM and Danantara chief executive Rosan Roeslani announced Indonesia’s commitment to purchase US$15 billion (Rp253 trillion) worth of crude oil from the United States.
The commitment forms part of a series of Indonesia-US economic cooperation agreements discussed alongside the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) by President Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump.
“We are continuing forward, and there is an agreement to import gas and crude oil worth US$15 billion per year,” Rosan said during a virtual press conference on Friday, 20 February 2026.
Rosan said Indonesia and the US have also begun discussions on investment plans in the oil and gas sector.
“We have also started talks on several potential pipeline investments covering a number of areas, both in oil and gas as well as other sectors,” Rosan explained.
During the same occasion, Rosan confirmed that Indonesia would proceed with plans to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft.
“As part of this Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs, there are several activities that fall under the Ministry of Investment as well as Danantara. Among them is the plan to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft,” he continued.
The government said further discussions on the aircraft purchase would be held with Boeing.
However, Rosan did not elaborate on the total value of the purchase, the types of aircraft to be acquired, or the timeline for purchase and delivery.
“We will discuss this further with Boeing, although preliminary talks with Boeing have in fact already taken place,” he concluded.
