Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has admitted that he is not yet aware of the details regarding the potential import of 150 million barrels of crude oil from Russia.

“If that’s the case, I don’t know yet,” Purbaya stated during a media briefing at his office on Friday (24/4/2026).

Purbaya also emphasised that discussions on energy matters, including oil and LPG supplies from Russia, fall under the authority of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

“That’s something ESDM knows better about. I can’t answer that,” he said.

Previously, the President’s Special Envoy for Energy and Environment, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, revealed that Indonesia has secured 150 million barrels of crude oil from Russia. This oil supply was even obtained at a special price.

Hashim explained that the agreement on the special price was the result of President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Russia. During that visit, Prabowo met directly with President Vladimir Putin.

“Indonesia now has a commitment from the Russian government: 150 million barrels that we can store in Indonesia to address economic turbulence issues,” Hashim said during the Economic Briefing 2026 event at Menara Patra Jasa, Jakarta, quoted on Friday (24/4/2026).

Hashim elaborated that initially, in the meeting with Putin, Russia agreed to send 100 million barrels at a special price. However, Russia would add another 50 million barrels for Indonesia to cope with global turbulence.

“He (Prabowo Subianto) went to Moscow and met President Putin for 3 hours and got a commitment from President Putin that 100 million barrels of oil would be sent to Indonesia soon. 100 million barrels at a special price. And if Indonesia needs more, it’s already added by 50 million,” he explained.

The agreement with Russia regarding this black gold commodity serves as an effort to enhance domestic energy resilience, particularly against the impact of the war in the Middle East, which has heightened concerns over global oil supplies.
