JAKARTA, (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will host the World Batik Summit 2011 in the Jakarta Convention Center from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, an official said here on Monday.

Director General for Information and Public Diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry Andri Hadi told reporters that the event is also to mark batik as Indonesia's world heritage.

"In the next two week, we will host the World Batik Summit 2011 that is coincidence with the commemoration of UNESCO's acknowledgment of our batik as the world's heritage," said Hadi, adding that the summit will be joined by many countries.

According to him, Indonesia will present batik from producing cities such as Pekalongan of Central Java and others.

The event includes a international conference themed " Indonesia: Global Home of Batik" and site visit workshops in different representative locations around the city, such as the Jakarta Textile Museum.

This program aims to provide opportunities for international buyers to meet face to face with Indonesian sellers, in order to increase products selling.

There will be also an exhibition called Gelar Batik Nusantara presenting all batik products such as batik gallery, batik art and crafts, batik interiors, batik workshop, jewelry, accessories, and fashion, among others.
