Indonesia to host Malaysia in Davis Cup
LONDON: Indonesia are drawn to host Malaysia in their
Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone Group 2 match next year.
The national team, who is seeded second in the group, lost 4-1
to Thailand in Bangkok on Sunday, and were defeated 3-2 by
Uzbekistan in March. Other ties in the group are top seeded New
Zealand vs. Lebanon, third seeded Kuwait vs. Kazakhstan
and fourth seeded Hong Kong vs. Pacific Oceania, The Associated
Press reported.
Meanwhile, Australia were handed a tough Davis Cup assignment
after being drawn away to Switzerland in the pick of next year's
first round matches.
The tie raises the prospect of world number one Roger Federer
coming up against Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, who has not beaten
the Swiss star in his last nine attempts.
This year's surprise finalists, Croatia and Slovakia, were
both handed away matches. The Croatians will make the short trip
to Austria but Slovakia face an arduous journey to Chile. -- JP
