Indonesia to Host Asia's First Quantum AI Data Centre with US$400 Million Investment
The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is facilitating the development of Asia's first quantum AI data centre, valued at US$400 million (equivalent to more than Rp6 trillion).
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday that the investment would position Indonesia as a cutting-edge computing hub based on artificial intelligence and quantum technology in Asia.
"This is in line with President Prabowo's directive targeting 8 per cent economic growth towards Golden Indonesia 2045. The digital economy, particularly data centres, is a key pillar to achieving this. Indonesia has extraordinary potential in this sector, and we are ready to become a primary partner in building Asia's digital future," he said.
The investment plan, with an initial project value equivalent to more than Rp6 trillion, was formalised through the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between Worldvuer iByond Limited, a Silicon Valley-based technology company, and Tunas Prima Industrial Estate, held in Jakarta on Wednesday (9 July).
Pasaribu said the data centre would be built in the Tunas Prima zone, a green industrial estate located in Batam, Riau Islands, which has implemented renewable energy-based infrastructure such as solar panels and independent water treatment facilities. The zone has previously attracted investment from global manufacturers including Apple for iPhone and AirTags production.
