Indonesia to Form a Special Export Agency? Bahlil: We'll See Later
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - News of the Prabowo Subianto administration’s plan to form a Special Export Agency has grown stronger, drawing responses from the relevant ministers. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia declined to provide details, but offered a brief response: “We’ll see later,” he said at the ESDM Ministry, on Tuesday 19 May 2026. Meanwhile, Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Danantara Indonesia and Minister for Investment and Industry Downstream, was reluctant to comment further on the issue, saying: “Later. Just wait until tomorrow,” after meeting at the ESDM Ministry on Tuesday 19 May 2026. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa likewise said he did not know; according to him, the matter would be announced directly by President Prabowo Subianto. “Oh, I don’t know, the President will announce it,” Purbaya told reporters at his Jakarta office on Tuesday 19 May 2026. The export agency rumours have circulated widely among businesspeople and economists. The reports suggest the agency would operate as a buyer of certain Indonesian export commodities before they are shipped to buyers abroad. However, it should be noted that the government has not yet furnished detailed information on the circulating rumours. It is believed the announcement will be made tomorrow by the President in a DPR address delivering the Macro Economic Framework and the Key Fiscal Policy Package (KEMPPKF) for the 2027 Budget Year.
