Indonesia to Export Electricity to Singapore, Prabowo and PM Wong Reach Agreement
President Prabowo Subianto has appointed the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) to implement cross-border electricity trade cooperation with Singapore. In a joint statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (6/7/2026), President Prabowo stated that the meeting between the two nations resulted in 26 agreements or Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) across various sectors. These agreements consist of 18 inter-governmental agreements and eight business-to-business agreements.
“Indonesia has appointed BPI Danantara to implement the cross-border electricity trade cooperation, as well as for subsequent trade activities,” said Prabowo.
The implementation is intended to realise a commercial electricity trade project with a capacity of 3.4 gigawatts (GW) or more by 2035, while simultaneously supporting investment in both countries and the development of renewable energy potential in Indonesia. The project was originally announced during the Leaders’ Retreat held by the two heads of state last year. President Prabowo also noted that cooperation between the two nations covers the digital economy, digital ecosystems, cybersecurity, food security, supply chains, security, connectivity, tourism, education, and youth.
“This excellent cooperation will benefit not only the people of Indonesia and Singapore but will also contribute to stability, growth, and prosperity throughout Southeast Asia,” Prabowo remarked.
Previously, President Prabowo received a visit from Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (6/7/2026), as part of the Indonesia-Singapore Annual Leaders’ Retreat. The meeting discussed various issues, ranging from cooperation in the economic, energy, and education sectors to several regional and global issues.
