Indonesia to Export Electricity to Singapore, Bahlil: Prices Must Be Fair

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has revealed that Indonesia is exploring cooperation for electricity exports to Singapore through the development of power grid networks in the ASEAN region.

However, Bahlil stressed that such cooperation must be conducted on the principle of mutual benefit or ‘fair’. Currently, the electricity network between Indonesia and Malaysia has begun to be established and will be expanded to the Philippines in the future.

“Well, after that, we are also conducting bilateral communications with several delegations, particularly in the ASEAN region, regarding the power grid. Now we have built the network between Malaysia and Indonesia. Soon it will enter the Philippines,” Bahlil said when met at the Ministry of ESDM office on Monday (11/5/2026).

He explained that Singapore has also expressed interest in obtaining electricity supplies from Indonesia. Bahlil views this cooperation as a good idea as long as it benefits both parties.

“Indeed, Singapore has requested it. This is actually a good idea, as long as it is mutually beneficial,” he said.

Bahlil then cited the electricity cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia, which is currently operational, including the utilisation of hydropower from Kalimantan. He believes such cooperation can be carried out as long as the agreed price is fair.

“That’s good, the price is fair. But for Singapore, we will also export, but the price must also be fair. As long as we haven’t discussed win-win, I think it’s important to conduct a more in-depth study. I think so,” Bahlil stated.
