Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Friday Indonesia would continue exporting gas to several countries including Japan, but the export volumes still had to be determined after consideration of Indonesia`s gas consumption.

"So we will continue exporting gas, but we cannot as yet the volumes," he said after Friday prayers.

Earlier Jusuf Kalla has issued an instruction to the relevant authorities in charge of determining Indonesia`s gas consumption and exports. It is expected the calculations on the consumption and exports could be finished next year.

He said under President Yudhoyono`s directives, Indonesia would prioritize the domestic cosumption.

Regarding the contracts on gas exports to Japan he said that they would be fulfilled but the volume would be determined only after the domestic needs have been met.

"Remember the contracts were made 30 years ago," he said.

He also said that Indonesia`s gas production had continued to decrease so that the calculations also had to be renewed.

To compensate for the reduction in gas production, he said there should be efficiency in explorations of new gas wells, he said. (*)
