Indonesia to Build 100 GW Solar Power Plant, Groundbreaking Imminent

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government is preparing to build solar power plants with a capacity of 100 Giga Watt (GW), which is planned to be operational by 2029.

The plan was revealed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia following a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/7/2026).

“We discussed the implementation of the 100 GW solar power plants, which, God willing, will soon be marked by the launch of the first groundbreaking,” Bahlil said.

Bahlil also revealed that the solar plants will later be inaugurated directly by the President.

“So this is already moving forward with regard to the solar power plants, and the first phase has been approved to be carried out later by the President himself, who, God willing, plans to officiate it,” he said.

Previously, the Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Dirjen EBTKE) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi, revealed that cross-ministerial coordination continues to be carried out to execute the massive programme.

Her office has also received instructions from the State Secretariat (Setneg) to immediately discuss legal certainty for accelerating national solar power investment.

The government will prioritise the issuance of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) related to the 100 GW solar programme over continuing revisions to other new renewable energy pricing rules. This follows an instruction from the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to accelerate green infrastructure development so that it is not hindered by administrative obstacles.

“Regarding the revision of Presidential Regulation 112 on pricing, we will prioritise the 100 Giga regulation first. That is the Minister’s instruction, to accelerate it first,” Eniya added.
