Indonesia targets UAE investment to strengthen national supply chain
The Indonesian government is targeting increased investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strengthen the national supply chain and food security.
“Indonesia welcomes the commitment of the UAE and global business players such as Louis Dreyfus Company to expand economic cooperation in Indonesia. We encourage increased investment that supports downstream processing, food security, and strengthening of the national supply chain,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.
Airlangga said the UAE is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners in the Middle East region. According to him, the implementation of the Indonesia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-UAE CEPA) can further increase trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The government also affirmed its support for the sustainability and development of business activities of UAE-based companies already operating in Indonesia, including Louis Dreyfus Company, which has been present for 25 years.
Meanwhile, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri expressed appreciation for the continuously positive development of bilateral relations. “The UAE sees Indonesia as an important partner in the Southeast Asian region and is open to expanding collaboration in various economic sectors,” said Abdulla.
During the meeting, the UAE also conveyed a number of strategic investment commitments. Abu Dhabi Export (ADEX) reportedly stated an investment commitment focused on strengthening national food security. This commitment is considered to reflect the UAE’s confidence in the potential of Indonesia’s food and agribusiness sectors, while strengthening the long-term economic partnership between the two countries.
In addition to the food sector, cooperation is also directed towards infrastructure development. Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) expressed readiness to support the development of airports in Bali through the implementation of a feasibility study.
The governments of Indonesia and the UAE agreed to maintain the intensity of bilateral communication to ensure that various investment commitments can be realised effectively. Both countries also committed to strengthening investment synergy, providing business certainty for strategic investors, and accelerating the implementation of priority projects that support sustainable economic growth.
