Indonesia Targets UAE Investment for Food Security and Infrastructure
The government is targeting increased investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support food security, strengthen national supply chains, and develop infrastructure. This move comes amid efforts to encourage investment capable of sustaining long-term economic growth.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the UAE is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners in the Middle East with a continuously developing economic relationship.
“Indonesia welcomes the commitment of the UAE and global business players such as Louis Dreyfus Company to expand economic cooperation in Indonesia. We encourage increased investment that supports downstream processing, food security, and the strengthening of national supply chains,” Airlangga said on Sunday (15/6/2026).
According to Airlangga, the implementation of the Indonesia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-UAE CEPA) is expected to strengthen trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The government also expressed support for the development of business activities by UAE-based companies already operating in Indonesia, including Louis Dreyfus Company, which has invested for 25 years.
During the bilateral meeting, the UAE conveyed several new investment commitments. One of these comes from Abu Dhabi Export (ADEX), which will focus on the food security sector.
This commitment is considered to reflect UAE investor confidence in the prospects of Indonesia’s food and agribusiness sector while strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.
Beyond the food sector, investment cooperation is also directed towards infrastructure. Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) expressed readiness to support the development of airports in Bali through the implementation of a feasibility study.
UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri said Indonesia is one of the UAE’s main partners in Southeast Asia and has great potential to expand economic cooperation.
“The UAE sees Indonesia as an important partner in the Southeast Asian region and is open to expanding collaboration in various economic sectors,” Abdulla said.
The governments of Indonesia and the UAE agreed to maintain intensive communication to ensure that the various investment commitments can be realised. Both countries are also working to accelerate the implementation of priority projects deemed capable of supporting sustainable economic growth.
