Indonesia Targets Top Five Global Economy by 2045, Says Industry Minister at INNOPROM
Indonesia is targeting becoming one of the world’s five largest economies by 2045, according to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at INNOPROM 2026, the largest industrial exhibition in Russia and Eurasia. “Indonesia has a target in 2045 to become a top five economy in the world, and this target can only be achieved if the manufacturing sector, the industrial sector, becomes its driver, processing the resources that exist in Indonesia, processed in Indonesia, building large-scale manufacturing that continuously increases productivity through technology,” the minister said at the Russia-Indonesia Industrial Dialogue Business Forum in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on Tuesday. The minister conveyed that strengthening industry is key through domestic resource processing, large-scale manufacturing development, and technology-based productivity enhancement. Additionally, Minister Agus stated that Indonesia’s membership in BRICS opens multilateral cooperation opportunities that can support this agenda and industrial transformation. At the forum, the minister also offered investment opportunities in the mineral downstream sector, particularly nickel. Indonesia, which has the world’s largest nickel reserves, has currently developed various processing facilities ranging from smelters and refineries to battery raw material industries. Agus invited investors to participate in further development stages, including the construction of smelters, refining facilities, precursors, and battery materials. According to him, such cooperation will provide supply certainty for investors while delivering technology transfer and long-term investment for Indonesia. Beyond mineral downstreaming, the minister mentioned that collaboration opportunities are also open in the manufacturing, energy, petrochemical, and shipbuilding industries. Indonesia, he continued, offers industrial estates that have been equipped with various incentives to support the establishment of joint ventures in the automotive, electronics, and machinery sectors. Minister Agus also emphasised that industrial cooperation opportunities are not limited to one particular sector, but rather lie in a partnership model capable of creating added value for both countries.
