According to a written statement from Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry here on Friday, the commitment was reaffirmed during the Indonesia-Tajikistan bilateral consultation meeting led by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Tajikistan Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar in Dushanbe on May 27, 2026.

“Indonesia views Tajikistan as an important partner in strengthening connectivity and cross-regional cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia amid growing geopolitical dynamics and the need for more inclusive global collaboration,” Nasir stated.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed plans to formulate a bilateral cooperation roadmap as a guideline for strengthening long-term relations that are more focused, inclusive, and oriented toward concrete results.

Furthermore, the two deputy foreign ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Committee as a new milestone in Indonesia-Tajikistan relations and a foundation for strengthening bilateral consultation between the two countries.

In addition, both parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, downstreamed industries, and digital transformation in support of sustainable development.

In the socio-cultural field, Indonesia and Tajikistan also agreed to strengthen people-to-people relations, including through tourism, educational cooperation, and cultural exchanges.

Indonesia also encouraged stronger ASEAN-Central Asia cooperation by enhancing interaction and collaboration between Tajikistan and ASEAN, such as through Tajikistan’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and the possibility of Tajikistan opening an embassy and permanent representative to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Beyond bilateral issues, Indonesia and Tajikistan exchanged views on geopolitical and regional developments and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other in various international forums.
