Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia saw a surge in international tourist arrivals throughout April 2026. According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the number of international arrivals reached 1,248,651, representing a 14.75% increase compared to the previous month and a 7.22% rise from April 2025.

Between January and April, total international arrivals reached 4,684,927, an 8.24% increase compared to the same period last year.

β€œThe increase in tourist numbers was driven by the holidays in Australia and the spring holiday in France,” stated Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information, at the BPS office in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

Based on passport data provided by BPS, international visitors to Indonesia were dominated by Malaysia with 207,960 arrivals, followed by Australia with 157,960 arrivals. Meanwhile, arrivals from China surged by 39.65% compared to the previous month, reaching 133,990 visits. There were also increases in arrivals from Malaysia by 22.31% and Australia by 5.52%.

Bali remains the primary destination for international tourists, accounting for 552,961 arrivals via Ngurah Rai International Airport.

In contrast, domestic tourism arrivals dropped drastically in April 2026. BPS data shows that domestic trips reached 97,546,288, a 22.79% decrease compared to March 2026 and a 24.14% drop from April 2025. From January to April 2026, the number of domestic trips saw only a slight increase of 1.48% to 417,059,680 trips.

Furthermore, the number of Indonesian travellers going abroad (National Tourists) was recorded at 3,144,286 trips in April 2026, plummeting 18.85% compared to March 2026 and 30.54% from April 2025. Between January and April 2026, total outbound trips were recorded at 3,144,286, representing a 3.49% decrease.
