The Indonesian government has expressed firm condemnation over the second attack that occurred in the Bani Haiyyan area, southern Lebanon, on Monday (30/3). The incident resulted in the deaths of two UNIFIL peacekeeping personnel and injuries to two others while carrying out their duties.

Through an official statement on the X platform, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sorrow over the fallen peacekeepers. The government also extended condolences to the victims’ families and hoped that the injured personnel would recover quickly.

Indonesia emphasised that attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) are intolerable actions. The safety of UN peacekeeping forces is described as absolute and non-negotiable.

In the statement, Indonesia assessed that this incident is not isolated. The security situation in southern Lebanon is deemed to be continuously deteriorating, particularly due to ongoing Israeli military operations that increase risks to UN personnel in the field.

The Indonesian government affirmed that any attack endangering peacekeeping forces constitutes a serious violation of international law. Therefore, Indonesia urged the conduct of a thorough and transparent investigation.

The investigation is hoped to uncover the chronology of the event and the responsible parties. Indonesia also stressed the importance of full accountability for this incident.

Previously, on Sunday (29/3), a TNI soldier serving in the UNIFIL mission also perished due to artillery fire near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon. The victim was identified as Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.

Additionally, three other personnel, Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan, were injured in that incident.

The United Nations reported that the latest attack on the UNIFIL logistics convoy in Bani Haiyyan added to the casualties. Two Indonesian force members died, and two others were injured.

With this latest incident, the number of personnel who have fallen in the peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon now stands at three.
