Indonesia Strongly Condemns Israel's Renewed Attack on Gaza: Deliberately Obstructing Peace Plan
Indonesia has condemned Israel’s latest attack on Gaza, which came after an agreement on the handover of Hamas weapons and the withdrawal of Israeli troops. Indonesia considers the attack to be obstructing the implementation of the peace agreement for Gaza.
“Indonesia strongly condemns Israel’s military attacks on Gaza, including attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, which constitute grave violations of international law, are deliberately obstructing the implementation of the Peace Plan for Gaza, and are worsening the suffering of the Palestinian people,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said via its official X account on Wednesday (5 August 2026).
In its statement, the Foreign Ministry called on Israel to immediately and permanently halt its attacks. Israel was also urged to promptly honour its commitments as a party to the agreement.
“Indonesia calls on Israel, as a party to the ceasefire agreement, to immediately and permanently halt its military attacks and to fulfil all of its commitments under the ceasefire agreement in accordance with international law,” the ministry said.
It is understood that the Board of Peace announced on Friday (31 July) last week an agreement to implement the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire. In its statement at the time, the Board of Peace said Hamas had approved the agreement, which includes a detailed roadmap.
The roadmap in question covers security, administrative and transitional arrangements in the Gaza Strip, as well as a proposed political track.
It also provides for the disarmament of Hamas — described by Hamas as the collection of heavy weapons without Israeli involvement — and the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. The two provisions are said to be interlinked, with their implementation dependent on both parties’ compliance.
In response to the roadmap, the Foreign Ministry stated that Indonesia respects and welcomes the agreement, judging it to be in line with the 2025 United Nations resolutions.
“Indonesia welcomes the news that Hamas and other Palestinian factions have accepted the roadmap for implementing the second phase of the Peace Plan for Gaza, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025). This is an important step in the conflict resolution process,” the ministry wrote.
“Indonesia calls on all parties to guarantee full protection for civilians, medical personnel and humanitarian workers, and to ensure the safe, rapid and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid,” it added.
Furthermore, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to realising a credible political process to achieve Palestinian independence based on the Two-State Solution, in line with relevant UN resolutions and internationally agreed parameters, as the path towards a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Israel continues to bombard Gaza, Palestine, despite the latest Gaza agreement reached in a meeting with representatives of the Board of Peace established by US President Donald Trump.
According to the BBC, the attack occurred days after Hamas approved the disarmament plan put to the Trump-established Board of Peace. At least 13 people, including children, were killed in the latest attack on Gaza.
An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said the military had targeted combatants in Gaza, and that two Hamas militants were killed.
Netanyahu Rejects the Agreement
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced his rejection of the latest Gaza agreement reached in a meeting with representatives of the Board of Peace established by US President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu stressed that Israel would not halt its military operations and would not withdraw its troops from positions in the Gaza Strip, as stipulated in the peace plan proposed by Trump.
According to a report by the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, citing unnamed Israeli sources, Netanyahu conveyed his rejection during a meeting on Monday (3 August) local time with the Board of Peace’s chief envoy for Gaza affairs, Nickolay Mladenov.
“Israel will not withdraw its troops from the positions it holds in Gaza, and will not observe a ceasefire,” Netanyahu told Mladenov during the meeting, as quoted by Israel Hayom in its report, carried by Anadolu Agency and TRT World on Tuesday (4 August 2026).
“Hamas continues to rebuild its military capabilities and poses a direct threat to the Israeli military and communities around Gaza,” the Israeli prime minister claimed.
