Indonesia Strongly Condemns Israel's Attacks in Lebanon, Calls for De-escalation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on several areas in Lebanon, including Beirut, which claimed the lives of civilians and caused damage to infrastructure.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that the attacks constitute a serious violation of international law, including international humanitarian law.
The attacks also “risk exacerbating regional tensions that endanger global security,” Kemlu stated via the X platform on Thursday (9/4).
Indonesia demands that Israel immediately cease the violence and aggression in Lebanon, and emphasises the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international law.
In addition, Indonesia calls on all conflicting parties to exercise restraint, undertake de-escalation efforts, prioritise dialogue, and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
Meanwhile, a massive airstrike was reported in Beirut on Wednesday amid the escalation of the conflict with Hezbollah.
The attack is said to be the largest wave since the conflict erupted on 2 March.
The death toll was reported to be at least 254 people, including 92 in Beirut.
The escalation occurred after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire agreement on Tuesday.
Iran emphasised that the cessation of attacks in Lebanon is included in the agreement.
However, the US stated that the agreement does not cover the conflict in Lebanon. US President Donald Trump described the situation in Lebanon as a “separate conflict.”
