The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has emphasised Indonesia’s commitment to ensuring the global energy transition proceeds in tandem with environmental protection and ecosystem preservation. Minister of Environment Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat conveyed this stance during the High-Level Ministerial and CEO Dialogue at the Global Electrification and Transition Energy Summit (GETES) 2026 at Mansion House, London, on Tuesday.

In its statement, KLH revealed the commitment aims to ensure the national energy transformation remains anchored to strict ecological standards to safeguard the earth’s climate future. This strategic step underscores Indonesia’s position as one of the world’s largest megadiverse countries, playing a crucial role in global climate change mitigation. The country’s vast tropical forests, extensive peatlands, and mangrove ecosystems scattered across various regions serve as primary pillars in maintaining the earth’s climate balance. Therefore, KLH is committed to continuously maintaining harmony between economic acceleration, energy transition, and natural resource protection as the main foundation for sustainable development.

At the international forum in London, Jumhur outlined Indonesia’s policy direction, which prioritises the precautionary principle for long-term environmental sustainability. ‘For Indonesia, the transformation ahead must be carried out responsibly. We ensure that every development step taken continues to uphold strict environmental standards to align with our national climate commitments,’ Jumhur said on Wednesday.

KLH affirmed that the Indonesian government’s policy direction aligns with the international call made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Addressing world leaders and energy sector CEOs, Guterres underlined the urgency of accelerating a global energy transition that is fair, inclusive, and leaves no country behind. ‘This forum has an urgent task at a very urgent time, namely accelerating the energy transition with speed, scale, and justice, and building a new global economy that benefits everyone, underpinned by clean and affordable electricity,’ Guterres said. He further explained that the shift towards clean energy use should not be viewed merely as a technical instrument to reduce carbon emissions. The core essence of the process is how the policies implemented can deliver positive impacts, create new jobs, and uphold human values for communities worldwide. ‘This transition must benefit everyone, creating opportunity, dignity, and sustainable development,’ Guterres added.

Responding to these global dynamics, Jumhur reaffirmed that Indonesia is ready to implement this framework through an integrated approach that places nature conservation as a key component. ‘Our priority is to ensure that the direction of development policy remains integrated with strong environmental guidelines. This approach serves as the foundation for Indonesia to maintain consistency between economic growth and environmental preservation targets,’ Jumhur stated. Additionally, the Indonesian delegation used this strategic momentum to invite all global partners to strengthen fair and transparent multilateral cooperation. ‘Indonesia is fully committed to continuously strengthening responsible development practices. We welcome strategic partnerships based on trust and transparency to achieve sustainable development goals for all,’ Jumhur said. KLH stated that Indonesia’s active participation in GETES 2026 in London demonstrates to the world that national emission reduction targets and economic recovery need not sacrifice ecological integrity. Indonesia is optimistic about realising a green and equitable future for all its people and the global community.
