Indonesia Strengthens International Promotion of Flagship Products in Canada
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is striving to strengthen the promotion of its flagship national products in the international market, particularly in North America, by once again participating in the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) Canada 2026.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Ottawa, in a press statement received in Jakarta on Monday, stated that SIAL Canada, to be held from 29 April to 1 May 2026 in Montreal, Canada, will feature more than 800 exhibitors from various countries and attract over 21,000 professional visitors.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, in opening the Indonesia Pavilion, emphasised that Indonesia’s participation in SIAL Canada reflects the country’s strength in presenting high-quality, value-added food products to the global market.
“Indonesia is presenting selected companies offering high-quality products, ranging from coffee and cocoa to processed foods, spices, and fishery products, which highlight Indonesia’s strengths as a resource-rich nation and an innovative centre for value-added food production,” said Ambassador Muhsin.
Ambassador Muhsin conveyed that Canada is a promising and modern market where consumers increasingly demand high-quality, sustainable, and innovative products.
Therefore, the Indonesia Pavilion is showcasing various flagship products such as coffee and cocoa, coconut derivatives, processed foods, spices and herbs, gluten-free cassava-based products, and fishery products. These products are displayed by 10 Indonesian companies.
“Indonesian products, from specialty coffee and natural spices to fishery products and processed foods, are well-positioned to meet these evolving preferences,” added Ambassador Muhsin.
The KBRI Ottawa noted that the export performance of Indonesian processed food and beverage products (HS 16–22) to Canada showed a very significant increase over the 2023–2025 period.
The export value was recorded to rise from around US$56.4 million in 2023 to US$116.6 million in 2025, or more than double (around 106 per cent). This increase was driven by rises in several major categories, including cocoa products, processed vegetables and fruits, and other processed foods (HS 21).
In the same statement, the Trade Attaché of KBRI Ottawa, Mahdewi Silky, stated that the growth in exports of Indonesian processed food and beverage products to Canada indicates that this market still holds great potential for further development.
Through the planned implementation of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-CA CEPA) by the end of this year, as well as the ongoing discussions on the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA), she hopes that Indonesian businesses can introduce their products more widely while strengthening access to the Canadian market.
“We are optimistic that this momentum will further strengthen trade and investment relations between the two countries, while also driving increased Indonesian exports to Canada,” said Silky.
