Indonesia strengthens global position amid geopolitical dynamics
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia is strengthening its position in the international community amid an unpredictable and dynamic global geopolitical situation.
“Facing a global situation like this, I believe it is imperative for Indonesia to reinforce its position in world affairs based on the principles we know as the tradition of Indonesia’s foreign policy, the principles of being free and active,” Sugiono said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Sugiono described the current global conditions as characterised by rapid and complex changes, impacting global economic pressures, humanitarian crises in various regions, and the fragmentation of global governance.
According to him, these conditions compel Indonesia to adhere firmly to its free and active foreign policy principles in safeguarding and advocating for national interests, while also contributing to world stability and order in line with the constitutional mandate.
He explained that strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global stage is achieved through concrete, measured, and sustainable steps within the framework of diplomacy that has become a national principle.
Sugiono added that in the one and a half years of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, the intensity of Indonesia’s interactions with the international community has increased, marked by active involvement in various global forums led directly by the president.
“Indonesia’s active participation in various international arenas, directly led by the President, ensures that our national interests are safeguarded and facilitated without sacrificing relations with our neighbours, whether immediate neighbours (direct relations), intermediate neighbours (in-between relations), or distant neighbours,” he said.
Sugiono stated that this high intensity is directed towards advancing national interests and participating in efforts to maintain world order.
In that context, Sugiono noted that President Prabowo had undertaken a working visit to Moscow, Russia, meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, including in alternative energy, agriculture, science and technology, as well as space.
The meeting also addressed the global situation, particularly in the Middle East, which is impacting economic pressures on various countries.
Additionally, President Prabowo continued his visit to Paris and met with French President Emmanuel Macron to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various sectors, including defence industry, energy, critical minerals, education, creative economy, infrastructure, and transportation.
Previously, the President also visited Japan and South Korea, resulting in trade agreements worth approximately 23.63 billion US dollars and 10 billion US dollars, respectively.
“From these visits, once again, if we talk about concrete results, first we see the active intensity of Indonesia’s diplomacy carried out by the President. Then also the commitments that occur or are made during those visits,” Sugiono said.
He emphasised that these visits are intended to produce outcomes for the Indonesian people from relations with various countries around the world.
Furthermore, Sugiono added that Indonesia’s current diplomacy emphasises economic diplomacy, including promoting quality and sustainable investments through cooperation with Danantara as the national investment vehicle.
Looking ahead, he said, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to strengthening strategic partnerships to expand market access and create a productive and inclusive investment ecosystem.
Sugiono also stressed the importance of global stability as a prerequisite for development and improving societal welfare worldwide.
“I believe a stable and orderly world situation is the aspiration of all people in the world, because without such stability, development or efforts to improve the economy and societal welfare in all countries would not be possible,” he said.
