Indonesia Strengthens Defence Industry Through Tactical Vehicle Development

The Indonesian government is strengthening its push towards national defence industry self-reliance through the signing of a cooperation agreement for tactical vehicle production. The signing was conducted between PT Republik Motor Internasional (RMI), a subsidiary of Republikorp, and Arquus, a French military vehicle manufacturer that is part of the John Cockerill Group. “Defence industry self-reliance is not built through products alone, but through the mastery of knowledge, technology, and human resources. Through this collaboration, we want to ensure that more capabilities can grow and develop in Indonesia,” said Republikorp Group Holding Founder Norman Joesoef in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday. The signing took place at the Eurosatory 2026 event in Paris, France, marking an important milestone in the development of tactical vehicle capabilities in Indonesia. The agreement was signed by Thierry Renaudin as President of Arquus and Norman Joesoef as a manifestation of both companies’ commitment to building a long-term partnership focused on developing national defence industry capabilities, transferring knowledge and technology, and strengthening tactical vehicle production capacity in Indonesia. This serves as a foundation for developing domestic tactical vehicle production capabilities to support Indonesia’s defence operational needs while simultaneously strengthening national industrial capacity. Republikorp stated that as an archipelagic nation with a vast territory and diverse geographical challenges, Indonesia requires reliable land mobility platforms to support troop mobility, area security operations, and various national defence and security missions. The partnership is built upon Arquus’s involvement and experience in supporting military vehicle needs in Indonesia. Through this collaboration, both companies will develop local production capabilities, strengthen national industrial competence, and promote the development of a more self-reliant and sustainable defence industry supply chain. Additionally, it will expand domestic manufacturing capabilities and strengthen maintenance and operational lifecycle support for vehicles in Indonesia. These capabilities are an important factor in ensuring operational sustainability and long-term national defence readiness. For Indonesia, the partnership with France in the defence vehicle sector is an important part of efforts to build a modern, self-reliant, and globally competitive defence industry. The development of tactical vehicles domestically not only supports the fulfilment of national defence needs but also strengthens the foundation of strategic industries capable of generating added value, creating quality employment, and enhancing national technological mastery.
