Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as one of the countries with the greatest prospects for developing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in the Asia Pacific region. Deputy Speaker of the MPR Eddy Soeparno affirmed that CCS has an important role in supporting energy security while enhancing Indonesia’s competitiveness amid the global economic transformation.

“By strengthening synergy between the government, businesses, academics, investors, and international partners, Indonesia can accelerate the implementation of CCS while creating new investment opportunities, increasing the competitiveness of national industry, and accelerating the achievement of the Net Zero Emissions target,” said Eddy at The 4th International & Indonesia CCS Forum 2026 at Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/8/2026).

Executive Director of the Indonesia Carbon Capture and Storage Center (ICCSC) Belladonna Troxylon Maulianda said Indonesia is now at a very important momentum in its CCS development journey. Belladonna said Indonesia has shown significant progress through regulatory refinement, increased international cooperation, and growing investment interest in CCS projects.

“The next challenge is ensuring that all supporting elements, from policy, financing, infrastructure, to capacity development, can operate in harmony,” said Belladonna.

Belladonna assessed that this aims to ensure that CCS project implementation can take place more quickly and provide real benefits for decarbonisation as well as national economic development. Belladonna explained that the forum will discuss various strategic issues, ranging from the implementation of commercial CCS projects, the development of cross-border CCS, strengthening Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), the development of carbon markets, to investment opportunities that support the acceleration of the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
