Indonesia Stock Exchange Weekly Report: Composite Index Falls 8.3 Per Cent
Indonesia’s Composite Stock Index (IHSG) fell sharply during the week of 18–22 May 2026 compared with the previous week. According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the weekly index declined 8.35 per cent.
The IHSG closed this week at 6,162.04, down from the previous week’s position of 6,723.32. The index decline was consistent with a fall in the Indonesia Stock Exchange’s market capitalisation.
“BEI market capitalisation declined by 10.07 per cent to Rp 10.635 trillion from Rp 11.825 trillion in the previous week,” according to an official BEI statement on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
The average value and volume of daily transactions for the Composite Stock Index this week increased. However, the average frequency of daily exchange transactions this week fell compared with the previous week. The largest increase occurred in BEI’s average daily transaction value, which rose by 15.68 per cent to Rp 21.77 trillion, up from Rp 18.82 trillion in the previous week.
Growth was also reflected in BEI’s average daily trading volume, which increased by 2.53 per cent to 36.67 billion shares from 35.76 billion shares in the previous week. Meanwhile, the average daily transaction frequency declined by 6.5 per cent to 2.37 million transactions from 2.53 million transactions the previous week.
Foreign investors recorded net sales of Rp 309.52 billion at the close of trading on Friday, 22 May 2026. Throughout 2026, foreign investors have recorded net sales or outflows totalling Rp 41.63 trillion.
During the week, two bonds and one sukuk were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The Sustainable Bond I from PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk, Stage III 2026, began trading on the BEI on Monday, 18 May 2026, with a nominal value of Rp 175 billion.
On Friday, 22 May, the BEI listed the Sukuk Ijarah Sustainable I from PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, Stage III 2026, and the Sustainable Bond I from PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk, Stage III 2026. The sukuk was listed with a principal amount of Rp 700 billion, whilst the bond was listed with a principal amount of Rp 500 billion.
