The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that weather conditions in Indonesia from 6 to 12 October 2026 will continue to be dominated by dry conditions. Nevertheless, heavy local rainfall remains a concern in several regions.

These dry conditions are characterised by prolonged to extremely long periods without rain (HTH) in various areas. It has been recorded that 1,869 points fall into the category of extremely long periods without rain.

This situation also necessitates heightened vigilance regarding the risk of forest and land fires (karhutla). BMKG noted that hotspots are still being monitored at high levels in several regions.

Specifically, 261 hotspots were detected in Sumatra, 2int 212 in Kalimantan, and 229 in the Papua and Maluku regions.

BMKG stated that the dry conditions are influenced by a limited supply of water vapour. The ongoing strong El Niño phenomenon and a positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are contributing to the restricted water vapour supply to the Indonesian archipelago.

During the first ten-day period of October, approximately 79.66 per cent of Indonesia’s territory is predicted to experience low rainfall.

Despite the dominance of dry weather, the public is urged not to be complacent regarding the potential for heavy local rain. Rainfall can occur locally, meaning weather conditions can vary between regions and time periods.

Rainy Season Predicted to Begin in November

Previously, BMKG revealed its prediction for the 2026 rainy season. BMKG predicts that the start of the rainy season in Indonesia will occur in November 2026.
