Indonesia-South Korea Strengthen Strategic Partnership, Sign 10 MoUs Worth Rp 173 Trillion
The Indonesian government continues to strengthen international cooperation as part of its strategy to promote sustainable economic growth, expand investment, and accelerate technology- and clean energy-based economic transformation. Strong bilateral partnerships are key to navigating global dynamics while opening mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities.
“For me, this first state visit is very important. I consider Korea a close friend of Indonesia, and I want to enhance this cooperation,” stated President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in his remarks on Thursday (2/4/2026). He made this statement during a state visit at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Korea, Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), Seoul, on Wednesday (1/4).
As a manifestation of this commitment, Prabowo directly witnessed the announcement and exchange of 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Korea.
The exchange of MoUs reflects the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries, which continues to develop with a long-term orientation. The agreements reached cover various priority sectors, from economy, energy, and digital to health and future industries.
In detail, the cooperation includes the establishment of a comprehensive strategic dialogue, strengthening economic cooperation 2.0, developing critical minerals partnerships, and cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) for basic health and human development. Additionally, cooperation also encompasses strengthening in clean energy, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and offshore power generation services industry.
Furthermore, the two countries are also strengthening collaboration in the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights as well as financial cooperation, including partnerships between Danantara Indonesia and the Export-Import Bank of Korea. Overall, these agreements are expected to strengthen the national industrial foundation while enhancing the economic competitiveness of both countries.
This cross-sectoral cooperation also serves as a concrete step in driving economic transformation towards a more inclusive, innovation-based, and sustainable direction. The synergy between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea is expected to accelerate the development of future industries, including digital technology, new renewable energy, and strengthening global supply chains.
Additionally, this collaboration further affirms Indonesia’s position as a strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region, leveraging the advantages of domestic resources and markets, supported by South Korean technology and industrial capacity. Thus, this cooperation is expected to provide tangible benefits to the people of both countries while strengthening economic resilience amid global challenges.
“In that meeting, MoUs were signed with a value of USD 10.2 billion or approximately Rp 173 trillion,” concluded the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.
