Indonesia, South Korea seek stronger creative economy cooperation
Harsya said that Indonesia and South Korea share the same vision of making the creative economy a new source of economic growth.
“The success of South Korea through the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, has become both an inspiration and an opportunity for broader collaboration,” he said, according to a ministry press statement received here on Friday.
“With the strategic partnership between the two countries, we see significant opportunities to promote co-production, talent exchange, digital game development, and various technology-based collaborations that can benefit the creative industries of both Indonesia and South Korea,” he added.
The meeting between Minister Harsya and Ambassador Yoon followed discussions between President Prabowo Subianto and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on March 31, 2026.
Following the agreement on a special comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the Ministry of Creative Economy is drafting a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will serve as the framework for creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea.
The MoU will also provide the basis for establishing a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee, which will be co-chaired by Indonesia’s Creative Economy Minister and the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
During the meeting, Harsya invited the South Korean government and creative industry stakeholders to participate in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, which will be held in Jakarta in October.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Yoon said that Indonesia and South Korea have numerous opportunities to enhance collaboration in the creative economy sector, including in film, content development, and talent and expert training to business meetings.
