Indonesia-South Korea Cooperation Strengthens, President Prabowo's Visit Yields Rp173 Trillion in Investments
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to the Republic of Korea has yielded significant results in strengthening the economic sector, particularly investments. This enhancement of cooperation is marked, among other things, by the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoU) between business actors from both countries valued at $10.2 billion or approximately Rp173 trillion.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs after attending the “Indonesia–Korea Partnership for Resilient Growth” forum in Seoul on Wednesday (01/04/2026), representing President Prabowo Subianto alongside the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani.
“In that meeting, MoUs were signed with a value of $10.2 billion or approximately Rp173 trillion,” said Airlangga to the media in Seoul.
Airlangga explained that the cooperation covers various strategic sectors, including energy and green transition, such as solar power, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and renewable energy. In addition, the cooperation also encompasses the industrial and manufacturing sectors such as steel, batteries, and environmentally friendly transportation.
“The investments also include the digital and AI sectors. Then property and infrastructure, including development in Bumi Serpong Damai, and business and association cooperation between Kadin and KCCI, especially to encourage business commitments,” he continued.
In addition, Airlangga mentioned that several major Korean companies are further strengthening their investment commitments in Indonesia, including POSCO’s development of the steel industry and Lotte’s investment interest, which opens opportunities for collaboration with Danantara as an investment partner.
Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs emphasised that the results of President Prabowo’s visit to South Korea complement the investment achievements from the previous visit to Japan, which resulted in investment commitments of $23.6 billion or approximately Rp401 trillion.
“This means that the President’s visits to these two countries have resulted in investment commitments totalling Rp574 trillion,” revealed Airlangga.
According to him, this achievement demonstrates that Indonesia remains an attractive investment destination amid global geopolitical uncertainties.
“This is a very significant figure because Indonesia, in this uncertain geopolitical situation, still attracts investors from both Japan and Korea,” he added.
On that occasion, Airlangga also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuously improve the investment climate through debottlenecking measures, namely resolving investment obstacles faced by business actors.
“We are preparing a debottlenecking mechanism so that all problems faced by the business world can be resolved quickly,” he said.
He also conveyed that discussions between the Indonesian and South Korean governments proceeded very positively, in line with the bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and the President of the Republic of Korea, which resulted in an agreement to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. This cooperation is expected to drive sustainable economic growth, accelerate industrial transformation, and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain across various strategic sectors.
