Indonesia slams Thai sailors
BANGKOK (AFP): The Indonesian authorities have accused Thai
fishermen of spreading AIDS in Indonesian ports by sleeping with
prostitutes, Thai officials were quoted as saying yesterday.
The Thai ministry of public health held seminars for non-
government organizations (NGOs), businesses and state authorities
to halt the problem following complaints from Indonesia.
The meetings decided to launch information campaigns to stop
Thai fishermen passing on the disease when in Indonesian ports.
But many fishermen working for Thai firms are migrant laborers
who barely understand Thai, Pinyo Veerasukaswat of the
international NGO Care told the Bangkok Post.
