The Indonesian government and Saudi Arabia have strengthened cooperation in investment promotion and facilitation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation and Promotion of Direct Investment.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani said the MoU is a strategic step to bring Indonesia–Saudi Arabia relations to a higher level through investment cooperation.

According to Rosan, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have a close relationship built on mutual trust, mutual respect, and people-to-people ties that have been established for decades.

“This relationship is now being expanded through enhanced investment cooperation, which is expected to deliver economic benefits for both countries,” he said in a written statement, as reported by Antara on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

During the period from 2021 to the first half of 2026, realised foreign direct investment (FDI) from Saudi Arabia in Indonesia totalled USD126.2 million.

Rosan said the changing global economic landscape is encouraging countries to build stronger partnerships, as investors today not only consider competitive costs but also seek stability, certainty, and long-term investment opportunities.

“Saudi Arabia is pursuing its Vision 2030 agenda, while Indonesia continues to accelerate industrialisation, downstreaming, infrastructure development, and economic transformation. This shared development direction opens up enormous collaboration opportunities for both countries,” he said.

Through the MoU signed on 4 August 2026 with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment Fahad bin Abduljalil Al-Saif, the two countries agreed to strengthen direct investment cooperation through the exchange of statistical information, business and investment opportunities, as well as regulations and the investment climate.

In addition, the cooperation also includes consultations with the private sector, the organisation of joint promotion activities, and the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and visits between experts.

The cooperation also serves as a platform to strengthen institutional coordination between the investment authorities of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

Rosan stressed that the success of the MoU is not measured by the signing process itself, but by tangible implementation that can generate new investment, expand business partnerships, create jobs, and deliver benefits to the people of both countries.

He also affirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to continuing to create a conducive investment climate through various policy reforms.

“Indonesia is open for investment. Indonesia is committed to reform. We welcome investment that can create added value, promote knowledge transfer, develop industry, and bring shared prosperity,” Rosan said.
