Indonesia shocks Sampdoria 2-1

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's national team prepared well for the Asia Cup finals and delighted its victory-hungry fans with a 2-1 shock over Italian giant Sampdoria in a friendly match at overcrowded Teladan stadium in Medan, North Sumatra, Tuesday evening.

Sampdoria, fielding its dangerous trio of Roberto Mancini, Mauro Bertarelli and Filippo Maniero, got the upper hand in the first half, thanks to a header by Maniero.

The national team equalized through Eri Irianto and secured the winner through striker Kurniawan Dwi Julianto. The friendly game was part of the national team's warm-up for the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates in December this year. (arf)
