Indonesia shares community engagement practices for climate action at BRICS forum

The Indonesian Government, through the Ministry of Environment (KLH), has presented good practices that place communities at the forefront of various environmental and climate actions at the BRICS forum.

According to a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Tuesday, Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Governance at KLH/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Ary Sudijanto, as head of the Indonesian delegation at the BRICS Senior Officers Meeting 2026 in New Delhi, India, on Monday (17/8), highlighted the role of the forum in supporting an inclusive green transition that favours the welfare of developing countries.

“For Indonesia, adaptation succeeds when strong policies and reliable science are combined with the active participation of local communities who are on the front lines of climate impacts,” said Ary Sudijanto before the delegates at the meeting in New Delhi, India.

In addition, Indonesia also shared its experience of using an integrated model for tackling forest fires on peatlands through the synergy of SiPongi technology and grassroots community action through the Fire Care Community (Masyarakat Peduli Api/MPA).

Ary explained that all of these experiences were presented to enrich the roadmap for cooperation among developing countries.

The senior officials meeting is an important part of the BRICS Environment Working Group (EWG) and Contact Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CGCCSD) series.
