Indonesia sets up anti-doping body

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency (LADI) was officially unveiled here on Friday with a mission to curb the usage of banned stimulants among Indonesian athletes.

Although it was inaugurated by the national education ministry, LADI, according its chairman Toho Cholik Mutohir, is an independent body.

However, LADI does not have any authority as yet to process samples from athletes as none of the Indonesian laboratories have been authorized by the IOC yet.

"We are waiting for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to authorize our lab in Rawamangun. If authorized, the lab can test samples during our local events such as the National Games (PON)," Toho, who is the director-general of the sports agency, said. -- JP.
