Indonesia Set to Launch E10 Bioethanol Petrol in 2027
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is targeting the implementation of petrol blended with 10% bioethanol, or E10, in 2027.
Eniya Listiani Dewi, the ministry’s Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), said it was preparing the technical arrangements for making the 10% bioethanol blend mandatory.
“The remaining issue is the commitment to the feedstock. We are now preparing the technical arrangements to move towards making it mandatory. In line with that, a regulation already stipulates that the feedstock must come from domestic sources, so we will see how much can be collected,” Eniya said in Jakarta, according to a statement quoted on Monday (26 October 2026).
Eniya noted that ethanol stocks, or feedstock supplies, currently remain far below requirements, at just 70,500 kilolitres. To implement E20 in 2028, at least 400,000–500,000 kilolitres of ethanol would be needed.
“If we want E20 in 2028, we will need a significant increase. The minimum requirement is 400,000 kilolitres, rising gradually to 500,000 and continuing to increase,” Eniya said.
To support the introduction of E10 in 2027, the government is also encouraging the construction of ethanol plants, with 11 new facilities planned.
“We have identified plans for around 11 new plants. They are preparing memorandums of understanding, securing land and taking other steps. We strongly support the revitalisation of existing plants as well; the priority is for all of them to produce new feedstock, because current supplies are very limited,” Eniya said.
