Indonesia sends aid worth $50,000 to African states
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia plans to send US$50,000 in humanitarian aid to Niger, Rwanda and Uganda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday.
The ministry said in a statement that $15,000 of the aid will be presented to the people of Niger who are currently suffering from a long draught which caused their harvest to fail.
The aid will be presented through the Organization of Islamic Conferences.
Another $20,000 will be extended to Rwanda to support refugees of the civil war who have fled to neighboring countries.
The aid to Rwanda will be extended through the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees.
The other $15,000 will be presented to Uganda for the victims of a recent earthquake that ravaged the western part of the country.
The aid for Uganda comes in response to a March 9 United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for emergency assistance to the quake-stricken central African nation.(pwn)
