The Indonesian government has conveyed its desire to enhance its digital partnership with the Swiss government. At the Swiss National Day 2026 celebration in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (29/7), Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Switzerland have spanned more than seven decades, covering cooperation in development, trade, investment, law, and digital transformation. “We are very open to exploring various innovation opportunities in the digital sector to broaden the horizons of bilateral cooperation. I am fully confident that the synergy between Indonesia and Switzerland will grow even stronger,” she said in a ministry press release confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday. She noted that Switzerland is a valuable partner for Indonesia in regular political dialogue and the Joint Economic and Trade Committee. “Beyond intergovernmental initiatives, our relationship is also enriched by close people-to-people ties,” Meutya said. Meutya stated that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Switzerland reflects a deeply rooted partnership built on trust and mutual respect. She also highlighted Switzerland’s strategic role as a hub for various multilateral forums in the telecommunications and digital fields. “Switzerland holds a very special place in my official duties. From the World Economic Forum in Davos to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) platform, to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), these visits underscore how important Switzerland is for Indonesia’s digital diplomacy at the global level,” she explained. Meutya expressed appreciation for the role of the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia in strengthening relations between the two countries. “We extend our gratitude for the extraordinary dedication in strengthening the bonds between our two nations. Indonesia wishes you success in your next assignment,” she said.
