Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is seeking to build military cooperation with Germany to strengthen the domestic defence system. This effort was evident when Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin received a state visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Germany, Abdul Kadir Jailani, at the Ministry of Defence building in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6). A press release received on Friday explained that both parties discussed various opportunities for defence cooperation. “The meeting discussed various opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Germany, particularly in the fields of defence, education, and military training,” the press release stated. In addition, both parties also discussed cooperation in the development of the domestic defence industry. Sjafrie expressed hope that the cooperation plans discussed can be realised as soon as possible by both the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and the German government. He also hopes the meeting will further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Germany. Through this relationship, Sjafrie believes Indonesia’s position on the world stage will become stronger from a military and bilateral perspective.
