Indonesia Seeks to Build Military Cooperation with Germany

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is striving to build military cooperation with Germany to strengthen the nation’s domestic defence system.

This effort was evident when the Indonesian Minister of Defence, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, received a state visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Germany, Abdul Kadir Jailani, at the Indonesian Ministry of Defence Building in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6).

According to a press release received in Jakarta on Friday, both parties discussed various forms of cooperation in the field of defence.

“The meeting discussed various opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Germany, particularly in the areas of defence, education, and military training,” the press release stated.

Furthermore, both sides also discussed cooperation regarding the development of the domestic defence industry.

Sjafrie expressed his hope that the cooperation plans discussed could be realised as soon as possible by both the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and the German Government.

He also hoped that the meeting would further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Germany. Through these established ties, Sjafrie believes Indonesia’s global position will become increasingly robust in both military and bilateral capacities.
