Indonesia seeks PNG clarification on fishing boat shooting
Indonesian Consul in Vanimo Alexander Tangkuman told ANTARA on Saturday that his office is awaiting an official report from authorities in Daru, the capital of Papua New Guinea’s Western Province.
He said the government expects a comprehensive report detailing the sequence of events surrounding the incident, including any possible violations committed by the vessel.
Tangkuman added that he visited the captain, Ma’rufuddin Dhuhri, on Tuesday (July 21), describing him as being in stable condition at a hospital in Daru.
He remarked that the allotted time for the visit was limited and that the consulate remains unable to communicate with the crew members, who are staying aboard the vessel at the Port of Daru.
The consul also expressed hope that the Papua New Guinean government would soon clarify the incident and disclose the crew’s condition.
