Indonesia Seeks New Oil Supply Sources, Russia: Contact Us!
The Indonesian government is seeking new sources of oil and gas supplies due to the war between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran. The Russian government is open if Indonesia intends to purchase oil and gas from its country.
According to detikFinance, one impact of the war is Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Tanker ships from various countries are held up, including two Pertamina-owned tankers that have not yet received permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and are now still stranded in the Arabian Gulf.
The Russian government has opened the door to Indonesia if it wishes to buy oil and gas from the country known as the Red Bear.
“Our President has repeatedly stated, especially to friendly countries, that we are ready to cooperate in the oil and gas sector if they need something,” said the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, when met in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, quoted from Antara on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
As an ambassador, Tolchenov admitted that he has not yet received a direct request from Pertamina or from Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. He said the Russian Embassy is open to discussing the matter of oil purchases.
“So, please contact us, convey your needs, and we will discuss how it can be realised,” he said.
Tolchenov added that oil purchases are open not only to friendly countries but also to unfriendly ones like countries in Western Europe.
“If they have an interest and are ready to cooperate based on long-term contracts, we are also willing to supply and sell oil and gas to them. This is essentially a matter of need and willingness to cooperate with Russia. We never refuse anyone,” he explained.
